If you are a modpack creator adding Essential to your modpack is super easy and has added benefits for you and your users.

Introduction

You are welcome to incorporate Essential in your modpack without the need for credits! Find the mod on both CurseForge and Modrinth for easy access.

Below, you'll find a detailed guide that provides essential information on how to include it in your modpack. While Essential is generally a straightforward mod, we've answered some common questions below to assist you further.

Which files can I include?

It's important to note that most of Essential’s files are not suitable for inclusion in modpacks. This is due to potential conflicts with CurseForge/Modrinth policies, as these files may contain sensitive data like screenshot cache and alt manager credentials.

The only file you may consider including is config.toml located in .minecraft/essential. However, it's highly recommended to avoid including this file, as the default settings are adequate in the vast majority of cases.

If you choose to include and modify config.toml, please refer to our detailed guide on Essential Updates for proper handling.

Configure Essential

Keybinds

Essential seamlessly integrates with the vanilla keybinds menu. To customize its keybinds, simply modify them in the options.txt file. Below, you'll find a comprehensive list of all Essential keybinds along with their default keys.

Essential settings

Navigate to .minecraft/essential to locate the config.toml file, which encompasses all settings available in Essential (also accessible via its settings menu).

For any edits to the config.toml file, ensure its validity using a TOML validator. We recommend using this TOML validator website for accuracy.

Please refrain from modifying settings labeled as hidden.hidden; these are reserved for internal use within Essential.

Essential Updates

Essential, in the past, would always keep itself up to date. Auto updates are now opt-in by default for all users! See Let’s Talk Security for more information around that.

When you download Essential directly from our website, you're getting the mod loader, which installs the latest version of Essential compatible with your selected Minecraft version.

Downloading Essential from CurseForge or Modrinth provides the full mod, including the specific Essential version for your selected Minecraft version.

Please note that users can still update Essential manually by either enabling auto-updates or responding to update prompts. The update feature is integral and cannot be completely disabled.
